This course provides a comprehensive overview of the role of a prop master in film and television production. Welcome to our comprehensive course on the role of a prop master in film and television production. Over the course of 16 weeks, students will learn the ins and outs of prop management, from the basics of props in storytelling to advanced skills in prop handling and problem-solving on set.
In Module 1, students will be introduced to the role of a prop master and the key personnel involved in film production. They will learn about the different types of props and the prop master's workflow and duties.
Module 2 focuses on organization and prop management, teaching students essential skills for maintaining inventory, creating prop lists, and managing props on set. Practical exercises will reinforce these skills.
Module 3 delves into prop usage and implementation, including analyzing scripts for prop needs and collaborating with directors and producers. Students will learn how to set up and place props on set and ensure continuity and accuracy.
In Module 4, students will learn techniques for maintaining props and ensuring prop safety, including proper storage and handling of props. Practical exercises will allow students to apply these skills.
Module 5 covers collecting and creating props, with a focus on techniques for sourcing, budgeting, and managing expenses for prop acquisition. Students will also learn prop-making techniques and materials.
In Module 6, students will learn about pre-production planning and collaboration with directors and producers. Role-playing exercises will help students understand and implement the creative vision.
Module 7 introduces advanced prop master skills, including handling specialized props and troubleshooting prop-related issues. Practical exercises with specialized props will give students hands-on experience.
Finally, in Module 8, students will work on a capstone project, planning and executing a prop-related project with guidance from peers and mentors. The course will culminate in a presentation of the capstone project, with evaluations from peers and mentors.
